Synagogue Basement Flooded

About 50 children at Netivot HaTorah Day School’s south location are starting school a day later than expected, following a major flood last week at Toronto’s Shaarei Shomayim Congregation, where the branch is housed.

Students will be bused to the school’s Thornhill branch, starting tomorrow.

As well, Shaarei Shomayim is committed to running all planned High Holiday services, although logistics are yet to be determined, Rabbi Chaim Strauchler, the shul’s spiritual leader, told The CJN.

He said that despite “significant damage” from the Sept. 1 flood, Shaarei Shomayim continued operations over the weekend – using the upstairs sanctuary only.
