Eastside Fire Causes $130,000 In Damage

A fire investigators believe was accidental swept through a home in East Petaluma Tuesday night, killing two cats who were inside and causing an estimated $130,000 in damages.

Firefighters responded to a home in the 600 block of Ely Boulevard South around 6:20pm Tuesday to find heavy smoke and fire on the front porch as well as the front room of the house.

Responders extinguished the fire in 10 minutes and were able to rescue two dogs who were inside, but not the cats, who perished in the flames. The family was not home at the time.

Red Cross is helping the family, who have a five-year-old child, find alternate housing. The exact cause of the fire is still pending investigation.
