Broken Pipe Floods Part of High School

KALISPELL - A frozen pipe caused some flooding at Glacier High School on Saturday afternoon.

A wrestling tournament was taking place when the fire alarm rang which caused everyone to evacuate the school. Fire officials later discovered that a broken pipe on the second floor caused the flooding after it may have froze due to the cold weather.

About 20 people from restoration teams are working to air out walls and cleanup the water and Kalispell School's Superintendent Darlene Schottle say that it will be business as usual on Monday.

"Instruction will be able to go on. The biggest disruption is in the main area of the office and being able to provide that support, but from every indication that we've had, these groups that have gotten together are pretty quick at putting everything back in place."

The school will have an estimated cost of the damages on Monday and five teachers will be moved to different teaching locations.

Burst Pipe At School Injures Worker

SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- A maintenance worker was injured while trying to clean up water that spewed out of a ruptured pipe at a Klein ISD school.

A large heating venting and AC pipe burst on Wednesday morning and flooded the floor of the gym at Klein Collins High School in Spring. The incident also caused the ceiling to start caving in.

A maintenance worker then slipped and fell while cleaning up the mess in the gym. His injuries were severe enough to warrant stitches.

Broken Pipes Flood Long Term Care Home

WATERLOO — A broken water pipe at Columbia Forest Long Term Care facility, in Waterloo, caused considerable damage Sunday afternoon as water covered much of the second floor and leaked through ceiling tiles to the main floor and a dining room.

Waterloo firefighters were called to the scene around 4:15 p.m. where they discovered the flood, caused when the elbow in a sprinkler system pipe burst.

The pipe was located in an exterior housekeeping closet that had a large exhaust opening leading to the outside which in turn, allowed the bitterly cold air to come in contact with the pipe.

Firefighters moved quickly, removing a toilet and using squeegees to push the water from the floor into the open drain left by the toilet. The sprinkler system also had to be shut down and all furniture removed to prevent damage. A restoration company was called to fix the damage.

Eastside Fire Causes $130,000 In Damage

A fire investigators believe was accidental swept through a home in East Petaluma Tuesday night, killing two cats who were inside and causing an estimated $130,000 in damages.

Firefighters responded to a home in the 600 block of Ely Boulevard South around 6:20pm Tuesday to find heavy smoke and fire on the front porch as well as the front room of the house.

Responders extinguished the fire in 10 minutes and were able to rescue two dogs who were inside, but not the cats, who perished in the flames. The family was not home at the time.

Red Cross is helping the family, who have a five-year-old child, find alternate housing. The exact cause of the fire is still pending investigation.
