Seattle Paying Close Attention To Flood Prone Areas

SEATTLE - In 2006, Kate Fleming drowned in her Seattle home when her basement flooded. The city wants to make sure that never happens again, so they've built a massive drainage basin. It acts as a huge drain, and this is the first year it's being put to the test.
There are other parts of the city that crews are also keeping an eye on:
  • The Delridge community in West Seattle.
  • Meadowbrook
  • Bitter Lake
  • South Park
The city put out sandbags for folks who live in those areas. We were there as the last of them were quickly scooped up Saturday morning.
City crews spent the last few days clearing drains. They're asking you to check those around your home to get ahead of what's coming.
Barb Oliver is a longtime resident here who lives in what she calls the epicenter of this area where it always floods. She says the neighborhood is looking forward to seeing the drainage basin put to the test.
