NIAGARA FALLS—Careless disposal of smoking materials may have triggered a Sunday morning fire that caused $75,000 damage to an apartment building at 1805 Niagara St., one of two fires in the city Sunday.
Residents escaped the five-unit apartment building safely following the 10:41 a. m. fire, which is believed to have started in a first-floor apartment.
Earlier Sunday, fire crews battled a blaze that caused an estimated $50,000 damage to a residence at 1629 South Ave.
Investigators on Sunday afternoon were still probing the cause of the 3 a. m. fire and said that the owner was out of town at the time of the blaze.
The Niagara County SPCA responded to the scene to remove a pet snake, police said.
