Broken Water Main Repaired After Flooding Parking Garage

DENVER - Workers have fixed a water main that broke, leaving several cars in nearby parking garage flooded Friday morning.

Stacy Chesney with Denver Water says the 8-inch main broke near the intersection of South Locust Street and Bates Avenue at approximately 2 a.m. That is near Monaco Parkway and Yale Avenue, but it did not cause any traffic issues for commuters.

Water from the main spilled into a nearby parking garage. While the water has receded leaving about 10 inches of standing water, residents tell 9NEWS the water was high enough to flood several cars. Crews are now working to pump the water out.

Sky9 also flew over the scene and saw Denver Water crews using a backhoe to scoop mud away from the broken main, so they can begin working the pipe.

The incident forced Denver Water to turn off water to seven apartment buildings, affecting about 50 families. Service was restored to the homes just before 2 p.m. Friday.
