Burst Pipes Flood Churches and Homes

A city pipe burst Wednesday morning and created a gushing mess inside of a church, day care and several homes in Fort Worth.

Water rushed into the Community of Hope Luther Church between Highway 287 and Miller Avenue around 4 a.m.

“Nobody was hurt. Nobody is sick. No damage to human beings so that’s a blessing right in itself,” said Johnny Lewis, a church leader.

The church also has a day care that was damaged and will remain closed likely until next week. And at least four homes in the area were flooded.

The city believes the 16-inch water main may have broken because of the recent heavy rains. It was about 35 years old.

By law the Fort Worth isn’t liable for the damage, but hired contractors to clean up as a courtesy.
