LAUREL: House fire causes
damage worth $100,000
LAUREL: An electrical failure sparked a fire at a
Laurel home Tuesday, causing damages worth
$100,000, the Delaware State Fire Marshal reported
Firefighters from Laurel, Blades, Delmar and
Sharpton responded to the alarm at around 6:15 p.
m. at the home on the 600 block of West Street to
find smoke showing from the attic area.
All residents of the home were able to escape
without injury. The home was equipped with
working smoke detectors.
Investigators have determined that the fire
originated in the space between the second floor
ceiling and the attic floor and was caused by an
electrical failure of the branch circuit wiring and a
light fixture connection.
