Copper Piping Theft Leads To $30,000 In Water Damage

FAIRFIELD -- A Rhode Island Avenue homeowner called police around noon Tuesday to report someone had broken into a residence occupied by one of his tenants and removed a brass water meter, a hot water heater and 30 feet of copper piping.

As a result, there was approximately $30,000 worth of water damage, according to police. The water damage caused a ceiling fan in the living room to collapse and a radiator to freeze and break, police said.

The intruder had kicked in both the front and rear doors of the residence to gain entry to the house, police said.

Police said they are continuing to investigate.
