Copper Thieves Causes $30,000 In Damage To Fairfield Home

Thieves broke into an empty Fairfield rental property during the holidays and removed all the copper piping. Subsequent leaks caused an estimated $30,000 in water damage, the police report said . The owner of the Rhode Island Road home said the burglars made away with a brass water meter and hot water heater in addition to the piping. He told police he had not been to the house between Dec. 16 and Jan. 4 because of an eviction dispute with the former tenant. When he returned Tuesday, he found both the front and back doors kicked in. He then saw that the pipes were missing and the massive water damage. Because the tenant has already moved out, the landlord does not suspect any other items were stolen. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Detective Bureau.
