Fire Damages Church After Services End

Investigators are probing the cause of a fire at a Northeastside church that broke out shortly after night-time services concluded.

The blaze at the New Life Community Church of Truth, Inc., 6345 Massachusetts Ave., broke out about 10:40 p.m. and caused $375,000 in damage.

Indianapolis Fire Department Capt. Rita Burris said 100 people were at a service 15 minutes before the fire started but no one was inside at the time.

The fire appeared to have started in the sanctuary of the 7,000-square-feet building and worked its way up thick beams to the roof, Burris said.

She said the entire structure filled with heavy smoke that pushed out the windows.
