School Set To Reopen After Pipe Burst

BERLIN -- Berlin Elementary School is expected to open Tuesday morning, the day after a burst water pipe forced an early dismissal.

Students at the school were sent home Monday. District Clerk Mary M. Grant said the 10:25 a.m. incident occurred on the second floor of the 74-year-old building.

The school has recently been dealing with lead problems from old paint on windows and window sills.

Workers were in the building over the holiday vacation to encapsulate areas found contaminated with lead.

It was not known whether the work contributed to the break in the water pipe.
