Downtown Pittsburgh Offices Closed After Flood

PITTSBURGH -- A malfunctioning sprinkler left a path of destruction at a major Pittsburgh charity's office on Wednesday.

The executive director of Catholic Charities said the flooding of its offices downtown caused serious damaged.

It was originally reported that a pipe on the third floor burst, sending water gushing to the building's sub-basement. Channel 4 Action News Anchor Mike Clark reported on Wednesday afternoon it was actually a malfunctioning sprinkler that caused the damage.

"We had a flood that went from our third floor all the way to the basement and just gave us tons and tons of water, and in its path, left a whole lot of destruction," said Catholic Charities Director Susan Rauscher.

Patients at the free health care center have to re-schedule their doctor and dental appointments.

Those in need are being referred to other agencies that provide assistance.

Crews are working overtime to get the work done as soon as possible, the organization said.
