EVANSVILLE — A home on Walnut Road in Scott Township was heavily damaged in a fire Sunday evening. No one was injured.
The rear of the home at 11617 Walnut Road was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 7:34 p.m., authorities said.
Brian Garrett, 22, was at home when the fire started. He said his dog started barking, and he noticed flames coming from the kitchen.
"Man, I'm ... hurt. My pappy just passed away and all the stuff he left was in there," Garrett said. He said he hasa place to stay the night.
The fire was brought under control just before 9 p.m. The cause is under investigation, and a damage estimate was not available Sunday evening.
