School Holds Class After Broken Pipe Floods School

Classes will be held as scheduled today at Kellybrook Elementary in the Northland despite an early morning water pipe break that flooded the school’s office and damaged part of its library.
A pipe to the sprinkler system broke about 2:45 a.m. in the school’s office, said Mike Brewer, superintendent for Liberty Public Schools.
The estimated cost of the damage was still being determined. There were several inches of water on the carpet, Brewer said. Some drywall may need to be replaced.
The classroom wings were unaffected by the break, he said.
“We don’t think it was temperature related,” Brewer said. He said it looked as if a pipe fitting for a two- to three-inch pipe had broken.
The district credited the Kansas City Fire Department for assisting with the clean-up so classes could be held at the school at 10701 N. Eastern Ave. in Kansas City, North.
