Maine's Heavy Rain Causes $1 Million In Damages

CALAIS (AP) _ Officials in Maine say a torrential rainstorm that deluged eastern Maine this week may have caused more than half a million dollars in damage in towns and cities alone, and another half million at the federal Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge.
Ten Maine counties are reporting damage from the Monday storm, which dropped 6 to 8 inches of rain in places, washing out local roads, flooding basements and closing a border crossing, a spokesman for Gov. John Baldacci tells the Bangor Daily News.
David Farmer says the final damage estimates haven't been tallied, but he says that the heaviest damage was in Washington and Aroostook counties.
