Fire Causes $80,000 In Damage

GREEN SPRINGS - Personnel from the Green Springs and Clyde fire departments fought a blaze at 318 N. Broadway St. Sunday morning.
Chief Greg Lowe of the Green Springs Fire Department estimated damage at $80,000 to the two-story house owned by Joe Davis.
Davis woke up, noticed the lights had flickered and went off, and smelled smoke. The four people who were in the house, including three residents and a visitor from California, got out safely, Lowe said.
"No one was injured," he said.
One of the family's three cats died in the fire. One survived, while the third still was missing when firefighters left the scene around 9:30 a.m.
Lowe said the fire started in electrical wires in the ceiling above the kitchen.
After firefighters entered the house, they found intense heat upstairs. Lowe estimated it took them a couple of hours to get the fire under control.
He said the majority of damage was in the kitchen and the second floor.
The main floor had smoke damage.
"There was extensive damage to the upstairs," he said.
Green Springs EMS also responded to the fire, which was reported at 6 a.m. Sunday. The Sandusky River chapter of the American Red Cross helped the family, which was displaced because of the fire, the chief said.
The family has homeowners insurance, he said.
