Flood Forces People From Homes

There have been some rough moments for people in part of Northumberland County after Wednesday's rain. Some were forced from their homes while others watched as flood waters rose.

Route 405, also known as North Front Street, in Milton was partially covered by water. People who live nearby watched as the water slowly moved down the street.

Laura Nagy kept a close eye because the water was moving toward her house. "We're just concerned if it's going to go up any higher or not. We cleaned out our basement so nothing is going to get ruin or anything," said Nagy.

Walter Wagner and his family also live on North Front Street, but he wasn't able to move his furnace and water heater in time. His basement is filled with water and is now pumping it out of the house. "We had the furnace running and we could smell it getting warm. I figured right away it was water. I looked and there was five to six inches of water all throughout the basement," said Wagner.

Just down the road is Jennifer Engleman's house. She and her family were forced to move all of their things out of the basement and onto the first floor. Engleman said her house has flooded in the past but luckily not this time. "We've been through this before. So this is not as bad as the first time but it's still scary not knowing how much water is going to come up and what to expect and cleaning and the normal flood stuff," said Engleman.

Emergency crews said the Susquehanna River crested at about 23 feet Thursday afternoon in Milton.
