Nightclub Closed Due To Water Damage

A small fire at George's nightclub and subsequent flood caused damage to flooring and carpeting Saturday morning.
The club is closed temporarily while repairs are under way.
According to San Rafael Fire Capt. Specialist Brad Mark, the fire started at about 11 a.m. when rags stored in a garbage can near the kitchen's water heater spontaneously combusted. The blaze caused the water pipe above the receptacle  to burst putting out the fire and simultaneously flooding the kitchen and restaurant area with two to three inches of water.
Mark said a damage estimate is not yet available.
Club owner Todd Ghanizadeh hopes to reopen soon.
"We will be working closely with the insurance company to insure that George's reopens as quickly as possible." Ghanizadeh said. "This is quite a blow coming to hit us during the winter holiday season but we are scrambling and hope to reopen within one to two weeks."
The 5,200 square-foot venue has a 1940's supper club ambiance and was reopened Oct. 2 after the building sat empty for seven years.
George's will issue refunds to all patrons who have purchased tickets for upcoming shows in November. George's will issue a press release announcing the new opening date as soon as all repairs have been completed.
