Fire Causes $500,000 of Damage

A fire at a two-story Grand Island home Monday night caused extensive damage but no injuries, according to the Grand Island Fire Department.
The Fire Department received a report of a fire at 5:22 p. m. and responded to the Whitehaven Road residence. The house’s occupants were not home when the fire broke out, fire officials said.
The fire caused more than $500,000 damage because the house contained a large amount of electronics, Fire Department spokesman Ray Pauley said.
The Fire Department, which was assisted by six other fire companies, had trouble getting water to fight the blaze because the nearest fire hydrant was frozen, Pauley said.
The fire took four hours to fight, officials said, and the cause of the blaze remained under investigation late Monday.
